To LDFGA Members,

The Lloyd Fish & Game Annual Family Wildlife & Awards Banquet is on Saturday Jan 31/26. We are hoping that we can get back to the pre-Covid attendance numbers that we enjoyed for years, but we need the membership attendance to help us out with that. For those of you that have not attended the banquet in the past, it is an evening of a good meal, entertainment, with fish and wildlife awards. We also have a fundraising component that helps to fund our youth activities, gun / archery ranges, projects and our provincial bodies in both Saskatchewan (Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation) and in Alberta (Alberta Wildlife Federation). We host the annual Youth Outdoor Activity in June every year, were have up to 100 youth come out to our Gully Lake property to do archery, indoor pellet gun safety and shooting, orienteering and an outdoor camp. We also send up to 5 kids to the Sask Conservation Camp and the Alberta Conservation Camp each year. We host other school events at our Gully Lake property.

For those of you that have not attended in the past, you may have the idea that we just serve wild meat. That is far from what we actually serve. We serve roast beef, turkey, beef sausage, steelhead trout, goose stir fry and deep fried pike, along with all the veggies and desert. Did I mention the Appetizer Table? We get a lot of great comments what we put out on that table for all to enjoy!

Now for the wild meat side of things. We do ask for donations of wild meat, but there is a major stipulation with that request. Any wild meat that is donated, must be tested for CWD and have the documentation for that animal (Deer, Moose, Elk, Pronghorn) testing negative for CWD. This is one contributor to not getting wild meat donations this year again, but there are some other factors also. One more being the price domestic meat, so there is more people hanging on to their wild meat and we certainly understand that.

So having said that, we are again asking if some members can donate some beef roasts this year. We use those beef donations to make beef jerky for the Appetizer Table. There is four of us that get together and trim up the meat, then I get to babysit the smoker for three to four days, depending on how much beef is donated. We are looking for 40 to 60 lbs in total, but if you can only donate one roast, that is appreciated also. Call Dwayne Davison to donate. (780-808-6420)

I do need to get those roasts as soon as possible, as we need time to prep and smoke the meat.

The entertainment is Calem Watson. He is an Outdoor Enthusiast, that went on a solo 3000 km canoe trip through the Northwest Territories. (Fort Smith to Tuktoyaktuk)  It took 122 days to complete and he will talk about that amazing adventure.

The Banquet tickets are $50 ea. with 9 years and under is free, but you do need a Youth ticket for that.

Tickets are available at Grindin” Gears and they are located 2626 – 50th Ave. (Strip Mall just south of Home Hardware) or from Dwayne Davison (780-808-6420)

Thank you in advance, I hope to see you at the Banquet
