Lloydminster & District Fish & Game Association will be hosting a Project Mapleseed on Sunday July 12, 2020.
Project Mapleseed is a one day event that teaches you the shooting fundamentals and the safe handling of firearms. Project Mapleseed is designed to be challenging, educational, engaging and fun for the whole family.
What to bring to Project Mapleseed – a .22 rifle, 400 rounds of ammunition and a teachable attitude. The .22 rifle is recommended because of its low recoil and ammunition costs. The most common rifle seen at these events is a magazine fed 22LR semi-automatic (10-22). As for sights, what ever is on your rifle will work (ie: iron sights / red dot / scope). A rifle sling (USGI sling) is necessary for Project Mapleseed. They will teach you how to use your rifle sling for support while shooting. Bring a stapler for posting your targets. Also, a comfortable shooting mat, camping pad or yoga mat to shoot from as we will be shooting off the ground often. Last year I got a Cabela’s shooting mat, but I have use moving blankets from Princess Auto in the past.
There is an excellent video on what gear to bring to a Project Mapleseed Event: https://www.youtube.
There are only 10 spaces available and this event has sold out fast in the past.
Set up for Project Mapleseed will be Saturday July 11, 2020 at 7:00pm, your help will be appreciated. The range will be closed so we can set up. My contact information is down below if you have any questions.
COVID Restrictions (Quoted from Project Mapleseed):
We’re working with existing Coronavirus restrictions, so we’ve modified what we’re able to do.
1. All Mapleseed events will have a cap based on achieving minimal social distancing as per provincial event restrictions. Participants will have to maintain 2 meters of social distancing during events unless they live in the same home.
2. Children 13 years old or younger will not be able to attend events as we will be unable to work closely with them due to the 2 meter distancing. We look forward to relaxed restrictions in the future so that we are able to work with youth again soon.
3. Only participants will handle their firearms.
4. Participants are recommended to bring their own PPE such as mask & hand sanitizer. We will be providing sanitization spray bottles to clean common surfaces.
Please do not attend events if:
You have a fever, cough, or are feeling ill
You are elderly, immunocompromised, or are otherwise at risk
You live or have frequent contact with people in the above category
You’ve been out of the country or have been in contact with people out of the country
If you have any questions at all, please email us at info@mapleseedrifleman.com
